Now, in Jesus was God. God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, and these people believed His testimony. And them that did truly believe it could draw God's blessings from Him. And when they did so, He said virtue went from Him. Virtue is strength. He-- In other words, if we'd say it today, he got weak when the people drawed off of Him. Well, if it worked that way in that human body, it'll work in another human body.

And we create a--our atmosphere around us, each one of us. You've been with people that were nice people, but you just couldn't hardly be around them. Then you've been with other people that you just loved to be around them. You create that atmosphere. And, oh, wouldn't you have loved to have been around Jesus just a-- Wonderful. See what that atmosphere He created would've been. I imagine it was just one great big bundle of love, and respects, and godly fear.

Always notice, a big man humbles himself. The way up is down always. Make yourself little, and God will bring you up. "He that exalts himself, shall be abased, but he that humbles himself shall be exalted." Oh, my, I like that.

Make yourself little; always be little. Don't be the big shot; be the little fellow. See? God's the only One among us that's big anyhow. That's right.

You always say, "It's a holy church, the holy people." Oh, no. It's a holy God (That's right.) and an unholy church and unholy people. That's right. Ain't no such thing as a holy church; it's a holy God in the Church.

It's not a holy people; it's the Holy Ghost in the people. Then you're talking not of the people; you're talking of the Holy Ghost that's in the people. Amen, amen. That's the right words. Amen. That struck home; I felt that one. Yes, sir. He liked that; I know that. Glory. Yes, sir. All right.

God's looking for character, not membership, character. Eliezer, when he went to get the Bride of Chri-- of Isaac, he sweated it out until he found character. Remember, Abraham put him responsible as God puts us responsible (That's right.), we ministers. "Hunt My Bride."

God bless your heart. I ain't looking for members; I'm looking for the pure in heart (See?), somebody that'll believe the Word.

Eliezer looked, and he thought, "Oh, I can't do this myself. There's too much responsibility. I'm realize the responsibility of finding Isaac--" Which, is type of the Church, you know, Christ; Rebekah, the type of the Bride-- And Eliezer got down on his knees and said, "God, You just have to help me." And when he referred to God, God helped him. He got character.

When I was a boy, I used to go out, and we'd, us boys we'd go out, and had a big old tree we used to set under, a big old beech tree. And the winds would blow; and I'd wonder, looked like that thing, so much in the top looked like it'd blow the thing over. But you know, every time wind blows on a tree, it rocks the tree, and it loosens up the roots, so that they can just dig deeper and get a better hold.

And that's the way mockery, laughing, making fun of a Christian, what it does is, persecution shakes the Christian to make him pray more, dig down, get a better hold, so he can stand the storms.

Now, you do not commune by radio, because you cannot talk back, or television. But when you can by telephone, because you are communing one to another; it just isn't one side. It is-- I cannot commune with you now, because you do not talk back. So therefore, it would not be coming to hear a minister deliver his message. That would not be coming together to communing. Communion would not be that-- If you come just to commune with the minister, you'd call him to one side, or any individual, and commune with him or she.

But to what we come into communion, is for each of us as individuals to commune with Christ. That is communing. Then communing is not altogether one doing the talking, us doing all the talking, but waiting and seeing what He says back to us.

Now, there's where, many times that we make our great mistakes is we do all the talking and don't wait and give Him a chance to answer back. We go sometimes, say, "Lord, I would that You would do so-and-so and so-and-so. Amen," and get up and leave. Now, that really isn't communing. That's going and asking a favor. But when you stay long enough until He answers back, that's when you're getting communion, communing with the Lord.

You cannot break the types and shadows of God. That's what Israel done in the natural. That's what they've done in the spiritual. We realize that those things happened to Israel. Now, they've happened to the church today just as they did then. And we're about the end of the road now, brethren. It's time that something happened. I want to cross Jordan (Don't you?) over into the promised land where we can see--

We've seen good things. God's been good to us; we're not complaining. I'm out here with you. I'm out here on these things with you. But, brethren, let's put ourselves together and go over. We must go over.

The great Joshua, the Holy Ghost that received the promise from God, that come down to lead us, He's never doubted it. Joshua never doubted it; he was God's general. That's exactly right; he was God's general. And he was the one who led the children.

And it's the same Holy Spirit, God's General, the Chief Captain that stood at the gates of Jericho when Joshua come up. The same Chief Captain, our General, wants to lead us into the promised land, and He's the only one can do it. Our organizations will not do it: “Thus saith the Lord.” Mark that down. Put that in your book and see if that was right or not. No organization will never take you over. It'll keep you right on the mountain. But the Holy Spirit will take you to the promised land.

I've never tried to make--let my ministry become a show. There's one thing Jesus Christ lacked; it was showmanship. Someone said not long ago, said, "Brother Branham, you ought to get with the big So-and-sos." ...We can't be a big shot and be a Christian. The way up is down. He that humbles himself shall be exalted.

And this little German woman called in some neighbor women and she said, "If I've done anything wrong, I'm willing to make it right; I know nothing about it." She'd been an invalid in a wheelchair for twenty some odd years. So they prayed and took the handkerchief out of the letter, laid it on the little German woman, and on the back of the page where they give the translation of her testimony, she said, "Now, old man devil, you've been in me long enough, so get out." She just get up out of that wheelchair and went walking on. Now, it's just that. Yes, sir. "Old man devil, you've held me long enough. Now, get out of me," and just got right up and walked away. Now, that's just how simple it is.

See, that's the difference. Somebody wants their name in some big something, but God's people wants to shun that kind of stuff. They don't want great big things, and great big something; they want to be humble, that humility. The way up is down. "He that humbles himself shall be exalted; he that exalts himself shall be abased." Humbled himself-- Don't try to be a big something; try to be a little something, but be what you are. See? Be little in the sight of God; be little in your own sight; everybody else is above you. "Lets him's the greatest among you be minister to all."

Who could be greater than Jesus Christ Who girded Himself and washed the disciples' feet? A foot washing flunky He become. The God of heaven, the Creator of heavens and earth, washing dirty feet for fishermen (Oh.), with manure and stuff, and dust off the roads, where their garments had swept it up, and washing it off; a foot washing flunky, what He was. And then we think we're somebody. We got to be Doctor, Ph.D. So-and-so. Oh, my. That ain't Christ. That don't display the lovely Jesus Christ. He become servant to all. That's right. Taught us an example that we should do to one another as He's did unto us. Oh, that's my Lord. What makes Him big, because He made Hisself little. See, that's what made Him be.

I've had the privilege of meeting some great men in my life, and I've had some privilege of meeting men that thought they were great. A real great man tries to make you think you're great and He's nothing. See? Meeting kings, and so forth, and men who are really are great men… Meet real staunch Christians, patched clothes, and things like that, and some of them come to the pulpit like a bandbox.

Did you ever meet people that you just loved to be with? You've had that, and why, they create that atmosphere by their life, the way they live, and the things they think about, and the love they have for you.

You've heard my message on the opossum, you know, and on the bees trying to sting me, the bull trying to kill me, animals-- See? It'll do—

You create an atmosphere, and that's the atmosphere you have to be in to pray for the sick. See? It's the same thing. It's love that casts out evil spirits.
